Furniture Shop Drawings FAQ
What should a furniture shop drawing include?
Overall dimensions, sections through the carcass, joinery details, hardware with part numbers, and material callouts down to veneer direction. If the piece meets a wall, we add installation details too. The goal is a sheet the workshop can build from without calling anyone.
What is the difference between drawings and shop drawings?
Design drawings say what the piece should look like: shape, finish, overall size. Shop drawings say how to actually build it, with every part dimensioned, the joinery resolved and hardware called out by part number. A fabricator can price and cut from the second kind. The first kind they can only admire.
Who prepares furniture shop drawings?
Usually a drafter on the fabricator side, not the designer. Studios like ours take that work over: you send a concept, a photo or a survey, and we turn it into build ready sheets at $20 per hour.
What are the most common mistakes in furniture shop drawings?
Missing clearances around drawers and doors, hardware that never got a part number, and sets drawn without the shop standards in mind. We catch these in review, and the first two rounds of corrections are already in the price.
How do furniture shop drawings help in production?

What software do you draft furniture in?
AutoCAD for 2D sets and Revit when the project runs in BIM. You get editable DWG or RVT files plus PDFs, drawn inside your title block if you have one.
Can you draft from a photo or a hand sketch?
Yes. We regularly work from photos, hand sketches, and even rough dimensions. If something important is missing, we will ask before we start drafting.
What formats do you deliver?
PDF and DWG by default. Other formats are available on request, and we can match your title block and layer standards.
Can I see examples of furniture shop drawings?
Yes. Our portfolio has full sets for chairs, tables, casegoods and upholstered pieces. Client projects stay under NDA, so we show samples with the branding stripped.
Do you make corrections?
